Life As Art

Life is like a series of art contests.   Subjectivity is a familiar term that basically means anything can have a different definition depending on the person doing the judging. While one person could look at a Monet painting and rant for hours about it’s beauty and wonder, someone else could laugh and openly ask how the stupid thing got into the exhibit in the first place. It is this very concept that makes our lives a metaphor for a running contest.   Those that understand who the real judge is, are the ones that have figured it all out.   While most people walk around catering their every move to their many on-lookers and audience, the artistic masters realize that they are the only real judge of their work.   The painting, the sculpting, the presenting-they take place in our minds.   Each and everyday we have the chance to make what we see, hear and feel.   We have the choice to wipe the canvas clean when we make mistakes or lighten up an area that’s become too dark.   Even the are

Writing

I used to write as a form of therapy.  Having a creative outlet is a necessary and useful thing for me.  Whether it's artistic or rudimentary, it allows me to express myself and use my creative talents to produce a piece of work.  When I'm done, I have a tangible creation that I can view and absorb.  It's everlasting and beautiful.  Recently, I read through my work in a creative writing class during college.  Some of the text was so insightful and somewhat whimsical that I forgot it was my own writing.  For a long time now, I haven't written a thing.  My motivation somehow evaporated.  A key to good writing involves thinking about the reader and constantly evaluating the words you string together from the perspective of this ambiguous other.  I became so focused on this that I lost myself in my work.  Balance will always be a point of focus in my life, and it is my belief that this is the key to peaceful, profound living.  It is my goal to pick myself off the ground and
